Frequently Asked Questions
Can you hold a book for me

Can you hold a book for me?
Yes.  Come into the bookstore, and find the book you need.  Once you've brought your selection to the information desk, we will hold it under your name for two business days.  If you choose to call in, we may be able to assist you if we are not experiencing a high volume of in–store customers.

How long does a special order take?
This all depends on the availability and demand of the book or item you would like to special order.  Generally, special orders take 3 to 4 days to process (if in stock), and then additional time to ship.

Can I purchase food, candy, water or juice with account money or on a voucher?
No.  Student accounts including vouchers are set up specifically for textbooks, and in some cases, supplies.

Do I have to pre–pay in order to place a special order?
Not usually.  To place a special order, visit the info desk and fill out a special order form.  We will call you once the item is available for you to pick it up, and you can pay for it at that time.  Some software or other high–cost items may require at least a partial payment before we place the special order.  These cases are very rare, however, and if advance payment is necessary you will be informed at the time of your special order.

Which credit cards are accepted at the bookstore?
Visa and Mastercard.

Does the bookstore accept personal checks?
Yes, but you must present a valid Washington State ID, and a current Highline Student or Staff/Faculty ID.   A working phone number will also be required.

What if my class is not listed on the website or shelf?
If your book is not listed, it could mean a decision is still pending on what book will be used for the course.  It could also mean no book is required.  You should contact your professor for a definite answer, or wait until the first day of class.  Instructor email addresses can be looked up on Highline's employee directory here.

How can I avoid standing in long lines?
You can purchase books online. On www.highlinebookstore.com, you are able to purchase textbooks and have them shipped to your house (for a fee), or you can pick them up at our Online Orders window inside The Highline Bookstore with no shipping charge or additional cost.  We will compile your order and send you an email as soon as your order is ready to pick up.  Click here to view full step–by–step instructions for ordering online.

What is the bookstore's return policy?
The return policy is printed on all receipts, and can be viewed or printed on our website.  Click here to view the return policy.

I'm looking for a job, is the bookstore hiring?
The bookstore often hires student workers, especially to help out during very busy periods at the beginning and end of each quarter, and during the break.  Stop by Employment Services on the top floor of Building 6, or come into the bookstore for an application.  Even if work is not available at the bookstore, Highline's Employment Services has a web site that helps students find work on and off campus.  That site is https://myinterfase.com/highline/student/home.aspx.
